Compress animated GIFs
Make animated GIFs small enough for chat apps, email and websites. Every frame is kept, and nothing is uploaded.

JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC and GIF, up to 100 MB each
How it works
Compress in three steps
- 1
Drop your GIF in.
- 2
Pick a quality, or a maximum file size such as 8 MB for chat uploads.
- 3
Download the smaller GIF, with every frame intact.
How GIF compression works
Graviton re-encodes every frame with an optimized palette and, where the background stays still, stores only the pixels that change from one frame to the next. Fewer colors mean a smaller file.
Hitting an upload limit
Choose "Exact file size" and enter the limit. Graviton reduces the palette step by step until the GIF fits. Turn on "Shrink dimensions if needed" to let it reduce the dimensions too when fewer colors are not enough.
Frequently asked questions
Will my GIF still be animated?
Yes. Every frame and its timing is kept. Converting a GIF to another format keeps only the first frame.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Graviton converts and compresses inside your browser, so your images never leave your device. Nothing is sent while you compress. When you download, the browser sends only a one-way fingerprint of the image, so the download can be counted and approved. Graviton stores none of it.
How much smaller will it get?
It depends on the GIF. Clips converted from video often shrink by a quarter or more at the default quality, and a lower quality or a smaller size saves much more. A GIF that is already optimized is returned unchanged.
Is it free?
Yes. Compressing and converting are free and unlimited, with no account needed. Downloading needs a free account, which includes 3 downloads a day with every format and setting. Pro removes the daily limit.
