How it works
Convert in three steps
- 1
Drop your HEIC images in, or choose them from your device.
- 2
Graviton converts them to AVIF right in your browser.
- 3
Download each AVIF or a ZIP: 3 a day on Free, unlimited on Pro.
Why convert HEIC to AVIF?
HEIC is the iPhone's default photo format. It's efficient, but Windows, many websites and older apps can't open it. AVIF is the newest web format and is often half the size of a JPG, but support outside web browsers is still patchy.
What happens to quality?
Photos are encoded with libavif at quality 75. HDR iPhone photos keep their HDR in the AVIF while Keep HDR is on, so they still glow on HDR screens.
Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between HEIC and AVIF?
Both keep images in the same HEIF container. HEIC uses the HEVC codec and AVIF the royalty-free AV1 codec, which is why browsers adopted AVIF, while HEIC opens mainly on Apple devices.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Graviton converts and compresses inside your browser, so your images never leave your device. Nothing is sent while you compress. When you download, the browser sends only a one-way fingerprint of the image, so the download can be counted and approved. Graviton stores none of it.
Can I process many images at once?
Yes. Drop up to 250 images at once and they are compressed together. Download them one by one or as a ZIP that keeps the original file names: 3 a day on Free, unlimited on Pro. On Free, each image counts once a day.
Is it free?
Yes. Compressing and converting are free and unlimited, with no account needed. Downloading needs a free account, which includes 3 downloads a day with every format and setting. Pro removes the daily limit.
