Remove metadata from photos

Take the location, camera details and other hidden data out of your photos before you share them. The pictures themselves stay exactly as they are, and nothing is uploaded.

How it works

Remove metadata in three steps

  1. 1

Drop in your photos, or a whole folder.

  2. 2

Everything is removed by default. To keep something, like the date taken, pick it under Keep metadata.

  3. 3

Download the clean photos one by one or as a ZIP: 3 a day on Free, unlimited on Pro.

What your photos say about you

Phones and cameras save the time and GPS location of every photo, the camera and lens, and often a serial number. Many sites and apps keep all of it when you upload a photo, and anyone with the file can read it.

The picture isn’t touched

JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF and GIF images keep their exact pixels; only the metadata is taken out. HEIC photos are saved as JPG at quality 95, because browsers can’t write HEIC.

Keep what you need

Under Keep metadata you can keep the date taken, copyright, camera details or, if you mean to, the location. Serial numbers, maker notes and thumbnails are always removed.

Frequently asked questions

Is the location really gone?

Yes. Unless you choose to keep it, the GPS data is removed from every photo, along with the camera’s serial number and the rest of the EXIF, XMP and IPTC data. Only the orientation tag stays, so each photo still shows the right way up.

Can I keep the date the photo was taken?

Yes. Pick Date taken under Keep metadata, and photo apps will still sort the picture by when it was taken.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Graviton converts and compresses inside your browser, so your images never leave your device. Nothing is sent while you compress. When you download, the browser sends only a one-way fingerprint of the image, so the download can be counted and approved. Graviton stores none of it.

Is it free?

Yes. Compressing and converting are free and unlimited, with no account needed. Downloading needs a free account, which includes 3 downloads a day with every format and setting. Pro removes the daily limit.
