How it works

Compress in three steps

  1. 1

Drop in a recent photo taken against a plain, light background.

  2. 2

Tap Crop to frame your head and shoulders. Graviton makes a 1200 × 1500 JPG between 50 KB and 6 MB.

  3. 3

Download it and upload it to your application.

What GOV.UK asks for

At least 600 pixels wide and 750 pixels tall, at least 50 KB and no more than 6 MB. Graviton crops to that 4:5 shape, resizes to 1200 × 1500 and saves at high quality, well inside the limits.

Cropped and resized, not retouched

Graviton only crops, resizes and saves the photo; it doesn’t smooth, brighten or filter your face. The rules for the photo itself are on GOV.UK.

Frequently asked questions

Why 1200 × 1500 and not 600 × 750?

600 × 750 is the minimum. A larger photo shows your face more clearly and stays far below 6 MB. Tap Resize to change it.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Graviton converts and compresses inside your browser, so your images never leave your device. Nothing is sent while you compress. When you download, the browser sends only a one-way fingerprint of the image, so the download can be counted and approved. Graviton stores none of it.

Is it free?

Yes. Compressing and converting are free and unlimited, with no account needed. Downloading needs a free account, which includes 3 downloads a day with every format and setting. Pro removes the daily limit.
