Fine-Tune Your Compression Settings
Go beyond one-click compression with quality sliders, format-specific controls, and output format selection. Get exactly the result you need for every image.
Why Advanced Controls Matter
One-size-fits-all compression sounds convenient, but it fails professionals who need specific outcomes. A product photographer needs different quality settings than a web developer optimizing background images. An email marketer needs precise file size targets that a default compression level cannot guarantee. And each image format has its own unique levers — PNG compression level, WebP lossless mode, AVIF encoding effort, GIF dithering — that dramatically affect both quality and file size.
Graviton exposes all of these controls through an intuitive interface. You get a quality slider for quick adjustments, format-specific settings for precise control, and output format selection to convert and compress in a single step. Whether you need pixel-perfect lossless PNG output or maximum AVIF compression for a high-traffic landing page, the controls are there when you need them.
Quality Sliders
Control the compression level with an intuitive slider. Drag left for smaller files or right for higher quality. The resulting file size updates in real time so you can find the perfect balance for each image.
Format-Specific Settings
Each format has unique controls: PNG compression level (1-9), WebP lossless toggle, AVIF encoding effort (for speed vs. compression tradeoff), and GIF dithering settings. These options let you squeeze every byte while controlling exactly how compression is applied.
Chroma Subsampling
Control chroma subsampling for JPG and AVIF formats to balance color detail and file size. Choose between 4:4:4 for full color fidelity or 4:2:0 for smaller files where color precision is less critical.
Output Format Selection
Choose a different output format to convert and compress in one step. Upload a PNG and output as WebP. Upload a JPG and convert to AVIF. Combine format conversion with quality controls for maximum optimization.
How Advanced Controls Work
Full control over every compression parameter in four steps.
Upload Your Image
Upload any JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, or GIF file up to 50MB. Graviton detects the format automatically and displays the original file size and dimensions.
Select Output Format
Choose to keep the same format or convert to a different one. Selecting a new format unlocks that format's specific compression controls alongside the general quality slider.
Adjust Format-Specific Settings
Fine-tune compression using format-aware controls: PNG compression level, WebP quality and lossless mode, AVIF quality and effort, GIF color count and dithering, and chroma subsampling for JPG and AVIF.
Download Optimized Result
Download your compressed and optionally converted image. The output reflects every setting you configured — quality, format, and format-specific parameters.
Benefits of Advanced Controls
Professional-grade compression control in a browser-based tool.
Granular Control
Adjust quality, compression level, encoding effort, and more. Every parameter is exposed so you can fine-tune output to your exact specification.
Format-Specific Options
PNG compression level, WebP lossless mode, AVIF effort, GIF dithering — each format's unique settings are available to control how compression is applied.
Chroma Subsampling Control
Fine-tune chroma subsampling for JPG and AVIF to control how color information is encoded. Choose full fidelity (4:4:4) or reduced chroma (4:2:0) for smaller files.
Quality Preview
See the resulting file size update as you adjust settings, so you can make informed decisions about the quality-size tradeoff before downloading.
Professional Grade
The same compression parameters used in desktop tools like ImageMagick and Squoosh, accessible from any browser without installation.
Customizable Workflow
Convert format, adjust quality, configure format-specific settings, and compress in a single step. Build the workflow that fits your specific needs without switching between multiple tools.
Frequently Asked Questions
PNG compression level (1-9) controls how much CPU time is spent compressing — higher levels produce slightly smaller files but take longer. WebP lossless toggle switches between lossy and lossless encoding. AVIF effort controls the encoder's thoroughness — higher effort means better compression at the cost of processing time. GIF dithering controls how colors are approximated when reducing the palette.
Graviton uses sensible defaults for each format: JPG quality 80, PNG compression level 6, WebP quality 80 (lossy mode), AVIF quality 50 with medium effort, and GIF with standard dithering. These defaults balance quality and file size well for most use cases, but you can adjust any of them.
Chroma subsampling reduces color detail to shrink file size without noticeably affecting perceived quality. The 4:2:0 setting reduces color resolution by half in both directions, producing smaller files. The 4:4:4 setting preserves full color fidelity, which matters for images with fine color gradients or sharp color transitions. This option is available for JPG and AVIF formats.
JPG supports quality adjustment (1-100) and chroma subsampling. PNG supports compression level (1-9). WebP supports quality adjustment plus a lossless toggle. AVIF supports quality adjustment, encoding effort, and chroma subsampling. GIF supports color palette control and dithering settings. All formats support output format conversion.
Preset saving is not currently available. However, Graviton remembers your most recent settings during your session, so you do not need to reconfigure between consecutive compressions. Preset functionality is on the roadmap for future development.
